The Meaning Behind Rich Piana's Tattoos
“HEY, WHAT'S UP EVERYONE. TODAY I'M TALKING ABOUT MY TATTOOS.”
So, let's start down on my shins. All the things I've done - day trading, stock investments, real estate, bodybuilding, 5% Nutrition with my supplements, gear, and apparel. I've achieved this all by myself. I'm self-made. So that’s an important one. Moving on, I have "Respect" on one arm, and "Revenge” on the other. When I was coming up, I basically demanded respect from everybody. And if someone didn't show me respect, I would take it. Revenge. Don't let nobody get anything over you.
Okay, this next one is controversial. It’s the spider webs on my elbows. That means being confined. It means prison. I've never done prison time. Never been there. So, for me, spider webs have nothing to do with prison. What does it have to do with? This crazy family friend. This dude was insane, and he just fascinated me. He had spider web tattoos. I liked it, so I got it. Moving on, during my bodybuilding career, I couldn't get tattoos. So, I had all bronze tattoos done. I matched the ink to the dream tan I used to use. Let me tell you, man, they look sick.
Then I got the biohazard symbol on the back of my neck. My body was a toxic waste dump back when I was competing. I did whatever it took. My mentality was no one was going to beat me. I’ll do more than you. I’ll do whatever it takes to win. OK. On to another controversial tattoo on my triceps. On one side, there's "power" and on the other side there's "pride." I was about power and pride. I wanted power, I wanted to be in control. And I took pride in everything I did. Still do.
“HERE'S ONE THAT SAYS, "ONE DAY YOU MAY" ACROSS MY CHEST. THAT'S MOTIVATION. THAT'S WHERE THE NAME OF ALL DAY YOU MAY CAME FROM.”
“One day he may.” It means you must work hard. et me tell you, 5% of the people do what it takes to get what they want. 5% put the work in. That's why I named my company 5% Nutrition. So, you've got the inspiration for ADYM and 5% Nutrition.
Alright. On the sides of my stomach, I have Polynesia coming down. This makes the sides of my stomach darker. It gives the illusion of a smaller waist. Another one is a gun with fingers on the trigger. Listen, you must protect your family. You must look out for your own. On this side, I got my dogs, I got Pain right here, who was the most incredible dog. And I have China. On the back of my tricep, I've got Ice. My 3 pits. Then, I have a huge tribal Pitbull on my back. I love pit bulls. So, these are my love of pits and animals. They're the most important tattoos I have.
And then there's "love it, kill it." TThat's my apparel and my Kill It pre workout. Ok, here’s another important one. Many people ask, what’s the teardrop under my eye mean? Normally, a teardrop means you killed somebody. But to me, that's bull. I don’t want to know about that. To me, it means a moment in my life when something sad happened. Then, I have all the 5% tats. 5% Nation. The people that have what it takes. The ones that never give up.
“SO, YOU KNOW, LIKE I SAID, EVERY FUCKING TATTOO, THERE'S A REASON. THERE WAS A REASON I PUT IT THERE, A REASON WHERE IT IS. AND THEY ALL MEAN SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO ME.”
